The small business owner's greatest laments:

I can see that my business has more potential, I’m just not sure how to get it there

It’s not surprising that you’re feeling a bit lost. Sure, you’re expert at working in your business, but there’s no reason to expect you should automatically be expert at working on your business.

Entrepreneurs are used to doing everything on their own, and that’s often what trips them up. They’re reluctant to ask for help. But moving effectively from a Stage 1 business (Entrepreneurial and Opportunistic) to a Stage 2 business (Structured for Growth) requires expert assistance. Research shows people don’t make that kind of 180 degree change on their own.

Building a sound Stage 2 company is complicated: it requires highly structured systems in finance, sales, operations, marketing and human resources. Detailed business plans, both short- and long-term, are necessary blueprints for the company’s success. Then comes no-excuses implementation.

Business owners find they must first recognize the need for outside help and reach out for it before successfully progressing to Stage 2. Finding the right consultant and learning the essentials of growing the business, leads to reaping the rewards of growth, profit, stability, predictability and peace of mind.
