The small business owner's greatest laments:

I feel so much pressure… It all sits on my shoulders

Trapped doing it all, having everything land on the owner’s desk, lacking support, accountabilities, systems, and reports to control what’s going on – these are the symptoms of a Stage 1 company.

Stage 1 is known as Entrepreneurial and Opportunistic – typically a time when owners have their fingers on the pulse of absolutely everything that’s going on. It’s a lot to handle; usually, too much. At some point the owner maxes out.

In Stage 1, the owner makes less money personally than is possible, works harder than necessary, and leaves a lot on the table when they exit. That’s the real frustration.

For a business to thrive and succeed over the long haul, it must progress to Stage 2 – the stage known as “Structured for Growth.” A Stage 2 company is properly prepared, equipped and staffed to move forward and be successful over the long haul. A stage 2 company not only knows how to grow, it also understands the difference between “grow at any cost” and “grow well,” making life easier -- not harder -- for the owner.

“Grow well” requires letting go and letting others play a part in the success of your company – starting with documentation and a skilled business coach who can help put business plans and support structures in place. You CAN have it all … it’s waiting for you in Stage 2.
